The Trojan War: 3 Interesting Events
First Event: The Golden Apple
A sea-goddess named Thetis was appointed to marry a mortal named Peleus, because neither Zeus, nor Poseidon wanted to marry her because they were frightened of the prophecy. The prophecy states that any son of Thetis would be far greater than the father of the child. Zeus forced Thetis to marry Peleus against her will. Almost all gods and goddesses were invited to this rare wedding, except Eris, the goddess of discord. She did not accept t his fact very well, and crashed the wedding banquet. She threw a Golden Apple inscribed “For the Fairest” among the goddesses.
Hera, Anthena and Aphrodite fought for the apple. Zeus got annoyed, and ordered Hermes to escort them to Troy, where Paris, a Trojan prince and the most handsome man alive, lived. He was to decide who actually was the fairest.
The three goddesses attempted to bribe his decision. Hera promised he’d have control over the world, Athena promised him victory in every battle and Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world. He chose Aphrodite, and in return she promised him Helen, daughter of Zeus. Although she was already married to Menelaus, he set off to Sparta to get Helen.
Second Event: The Unbreakable Promise
Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda. She was not allowed to marry until all the Greek warriors promised that they would attack anything that harmed her, and they would aid her father if she was ever taken away. When they made that oath, Helen married Menelaus, King of Sparta. Paris, from Troy, went to Sparta as a Trojan ambassador. During this time, Menelaus was away, and he fell in love with Helen. She did the same. They left Sparta together, taking lots of the city’s wealth. They returned to Troy.
When the Spartans heard about Helen and Paris, they sent a letter to Troy demanding the return of Helen and the wealth. The Trojans refused and the Spartans responded to the oath they had made to Helen. The Greeks assembled an army to invade Troy, asking all allies to accompany them. It is said that Helen is one of the main reasons for the ten-year war between the Greeks and the Trojans. She was the face that launched a thousand ships because of the vast number of warships the Greek sailed to Troy to retrieve Helen.
Third Event: The Trojan Horse
Still seeking to gain entrance into Troy, clever Odysseus (some say with the aid of Athena) ordered a large wooden horse to be built. Its insides were to be hollow so that soldiers could hide within it. Once the statue had been built by the artist Epeius, a number of the Greek warriors, along with Odysseus, climbed inside. The rest of the Greek fleet sailed away, so as to deceive the Trojans. One man, Sinon, was left behind. When the Trojans came to marvel at the huge creation, Sinon pretended to be angry with the Greeks, stating that they had deserted him. He assured the Trojans that the wooden horse was safe and would bring luck to the Trojans. The Trojans celebrated what they thought was their victory, and dragged the wooden horse into Troy.
That night, after most of Troy was asleep; Sinon let the Greek warriors out from the horse and opened the gate for the Greeks who had sailed back under cover of the night. They destroyed the city of Troy, killed the Trojans ending the war.

The Trojan War
Before the war began: The city of Troy was built by two gods (Apollo and Poseidon) and one man (Aeacus) . Troys destiny was that Troy would be captured in a place built by humans.
Ten years into the war: Agamemnon took Chryseis (daughter of Chryses, a prophet of Apollo) as a slave-hostage. Agamemnon wouldn’t return her. Apollo sent nine days of plague down upon the Greek army as revenge. Achilles and Agamemnon had a meeting about what they should do. During this meeting Agamemnon insulted Achilles, which made him withdraw himself and his men from the war. Achilles’s mother talked to Zeus about helping the Trojans in battle so Agamemnon would feel foolish for insulting Achilles. Achilles was thankful his mother did so and that Zeus agreed to doing it.

At the end of the war: Aeneas (son of Anchises and the goddess Aphrodite) was one of the important Trojan leader in the war. He fled the city while the Greeks were destroying it. He took his father, son and his ancestral family gods with him. During his journey to Carthage, he had an affair with Dido. Dido committed suicide in grief after Aeneas left her without warring. Aeneas got to Italy and fought a war against Turnus. Aeneas thus links the royal house of Troy with the Roman republic

3 Interesting Trojan War Related Facts
1) The Goddesses fighting were the main reason for the Trojan War occurring. Aphrodite promised to Paris that his reward for his good deeds would be the most beautiful woman in the world. Her name was Helen but a very obvious problem came with this promise because Helen was already married. Also, Eris the goddess of discord was ruining the wedding festivities that she wasn’t invited to.
2) Zeus being afraid of being overpowered by Thetis’ son is another reason the Trojan War occurred. If the son was both his and Thetis, the son wouldn’t of had to choose to have a short life, for he would be born a god and live forever. Instead, Zeus wanted Thetis to give birth to a different man. It would of been a whole different story if Achilles was a god. The Trojan War would of never occurred and Troy would of never been destroyed, but Zeus would have been overpowered by his son.
3) After the Trojan War, Troy was rebuild. It was attacked again though, and captured by Hercules, Telamon (Uncle of Achilles) and King Peleus. Laomedon promised Hercules a reward of immortal horses for saving his daughter but he did not keep his promise so the three attacked and captured his city. Other punishments for the broken promise was Telamon killing the ruler of Troy and taking his daughter as his concubine.

Trojan War
The Trojan War was fought between the Greeks and the Trojans. This war lasted for ten years and has been dated for 1194 to 1184bc. This war was actually caused before Achilles was born. An interesting fact is that the Greeks tricked the Trojans by giving them a wooden horse full of 50 men that attacked them. Odysseus thought of the idea to send them the horse. And that’s the reason that the war was over. The leading hero on the Trojan side is hector who was killed by Achilles in the 9th year of the war. Paris killed Achilles with an arrow guided by Apollo to hit Achilles heel.
